Conditions in which ACE is raised and may be confused with sarcoidosis include TB, atypical mycobacteria, histoplasmaosis, coccidiodomycosis, allergic alveolitis, berylliosis, Hodgkin’s, lung cancer, asbestosis and silicosis.
Other causes of a raised ACE include: acute & chronic bronchitis, pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema and bronchial asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, cervical adenitis, connective tissue diseases, Gaucher’s, leprosy, untreated hyperthyroidism, fungal disease, alcoholic liver disease, primary biliary cirrhosis and DM.
