Anti-cardiolipin antibodies have been associated with thrombosis (arterial and venous) in SLE (secondary anti-phospholipid syndrome) and also occur in isolation in patients with thrombosis and no evidence of lupus (primary anti-phospholipid syndrome). IgG Anti-cardiolipin antibodies have been associated with thrombosis (arterial and venous) in SLE (secondary anti-phospholipid syndrome) and also occur in isolation in patients with thrombosis and no evidence of lupus (primary anti-phospholipid syndrome). IgG- anti-Beta- 2-glycoprotein 1 Antibodies will also be tested when anti-cardiolipin Ab are requested. Also see entry for anti-beta-2-glycoprotein 1 Ab. Moderate rises in cardiolipin antibodies may occur transiently after infection. It is recommended that positive results are confirmed after 12 weeks. Antibody concentrations do not correlate with extent or severity of thrombosis.
