
Antithrombin is a natural occurring inhibitor for normal blood coagulation. Originally termed Antithrombin III, as the name suggests its major effect is by inactivating Thrombin in the coagulation cascade. In the presence of Heparin the rate of Thrombin inactivation is increased several thousand fold.
