Quantitation of IgG antibodies to Aspergillus fumigatus in serum using a commercial automated Fluorescent Immuno Enzyme Assay (FEIA performed on the ImmunoCAP 250 analyser). Test is indicated for the diagnosis of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, aspergilloma, paranasal sinus aspergillosis, other forms of aspergillosis in immunocompetent patients. Preliminary evidence suggests patients with infections caused by other Aspergillus spp. produce cross reacting antibodies.

Results are returned as mg per litre (mg/L) and range from <2.0 to >200. Levels of above 40mg/L are considered significant in most patients. In people with cystic fibrosis, high levels can be found without apparent disease and cutoff of 90mg/L is advised. In all cases the result of this test must be used in conjunction with the results of other laboratory tests, radiology and overall clinical picture in making a diagnosis.
