Clobazam is one of the benzodiazepines. Most commonly used as an oral antiepileptic. Indication for requesting: therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). Clobazam has a wide therapeutic window. As tolerance can develop there is no clear relationship between plasma concentration and efficacy. Norclobazam is less potent that clobazam but retains some anti-epileptic activity.

Additional Information
No correlation between either seizure control or toxicity has yet been established, but the majority of patients receiving treatment with conventional doses of clobazam have plasma concentrations below 200 µg/L for the parent drug and 2000 µg/L for the desmethyl metabolite. Desmethylclobazam has a longer half-life and therefore reaches higher plasma concentration.
