For the detection of CMV infection with newborn blood spots collected in the first few days of life. For requests for newborn bloodspots to test for congenital CMV a written request must be made to the director of newborn screening by the consultant paediatrician looking after the child. The letter must state that parental consent for CMV testing on the newborn bloodspot has been obtained.
