Any positive result is likely to indicate that thermophilic actinomycetes are the cause of the patients hypersensitivity pneumonitis. Two cutoffs are used, a lower cutoff suggested by the manufacturer, which indicates that there is an increased risk of Farmers lung and may prompt a phone call to discuss, and an upper cutoff 40mg/L for both assays which provides a higher level of certainty of diagnosis of Farmers Lung disease.
