Iron carrier protein. Usually ferritin levels will be above 1000 ug/l in clinically established haemochromatosis. Serum ferritin is now the test of choice for diagnosing iron deficiency anaemia. Please note, ferritin is an acute phase protein and may be affected by intercurrent illness.
