Fibrinogen is the final coagulation protein in the clotting cascade. The conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin by thrombin eventually forms the cross linked gel to physically block the damaged blood vessel. A Clauss Fibrinogen is a measure of thrombin clottable fibrinogen (a functional method). This is carried out using a high concentration of thrombin and a diluted plasma sample.
