Additional information
Parietal cell antibodies are found in about 90% of Caucasian patients with pernicious anaemia. Parietal cell antibodies are not disease specific, they can be detected in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis, gastric ulcers, Sjogren’s syndrome, other autoimmune endocrinopathies and in up to 7% of healthy individuals. Where GPC Ab are detected in asymptomatic patients, 3% per year may go on to develop pernicious anaemia.
