Lupus anticoagulant is a heterogenous group of autoantibodies, usually directed at phospholipids. The presence of lupus anticoagulants is generally accompanied by a raised APTT but the physiological effect is an increase in the risk of thrombosis. A Lupus anticoagulant screen consists of a coagulation screen including a second APTT reagent, Actin FS APTT and a Russell’s viper venom ratio.
