Metanephrines (metanephrine, normetanephrine, 3-MT) are products of catecholine metabolism. Clinical indication for requesting: ? phaeochromocytoma, adrenal incidentaloma, screening for phaeochromocytoma in conditions with genetic predisposition (MEN 2, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, neurofibromatosis type 1). May be requested in cases where 24 hr urine collections are difficult.

Collection Conditions
Ideally, collect from the patient after 30 min in the supine position. Sample must arrive in the lab within 30 min of collection. Instructions to lab: Centrifuge, separate and freeze plasma within 30 min of sample collection.
Minimum volume: 1 mL plasma.
