Oestradiol is useful in the differential diagnosis of disorders of puberty. It is of little use in the management of the menopause. Oestradiol assays suffer from interference by a number of oestrogen like molecules. If oestradiol results cannot be explained, contact the laboratory for details of organic extraction assay (sensitive oestradiol).
