
In many tissues plasmalogens are minor constituents, but in heart tissue nearly 50% of phosphatidylcholine may be in this form. Nervous tissues, testes and kidneys also contain significant amounts of plasmalogens. Clinical indication for requesting: for the investigation and diagnosis of peroxisomal biogenesis defects (Zellweger’s spectrum disorders) and Rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata (decreased plasmalogens).
