Reptilase reagent is purified snake venom. The action of Reptilase is not affected by the presence of unfractionated heparin. A Reptilase clotting time should be normal in the presence of normal levels of Fibrinogen.

The Reptilase clotting time can be used to distinguish if unfractionated heparin is present in a sample, where there is a raised APTT, with a normal fibrinogen level and a raised thrombin time, if the Reptilase clotting time is normal then the sample contains or is contaminated with Heparin.
