This assay detects autoantibodies to the voltage-gated potassium channel complex antibody. Voltage gated potassium channel (VGKC) antibodies are found in some cases of acquired neuromyotonia, Morvan’s syndrome and voltage-gated potassium channel antibody-related limbic encephalitis.

The anti-VGKC Ab assay has the capacity to recognise several proteins making up or associated with the voltage-gated potassium channel. The most common anti-VGKC Ab targets discovered so far are LGI1 and CASPR2, however these do not fully represent the positive anti-VGKC Ab samples tested to date.
