In light of the pandemic we have made temporary changes to our Rheumatology Advice Line service.

The advice line is a voicemail service and the queries are answered by the Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialists who will aim to get back to you within 72 hours (0113 3924444).

For primary care colleagues who require urgent advice about a patient, we have a Rheumatology SpR on-call at all times, who can be reached through the LTHT switchboard.

Out of hours, there is also a Consultant Rheumatologist who is available for telephone advice. Again, they can be contacted via the switchboard at LTHT.

Certain medication prescribed by the Rheumatology team can affect the way your body functions.

To make sure that your liver and kidneys are working properly and that you have the correct levels of red and white blood cells in your body, we regularly test your blood. If you are on a stable dose of medication, this is usually done every three months.

If you haven’t had your blood tested for a while, we are unable to issue a repeat prescription for your usual medication. This is because it is unsafe to do so.

Please complete an Information Form to request a blood monitoring form from the Rheumatology nurses.

Please be aware that you will need your NHS number to complete the request. This can found in the top right hand corner of an appointment letter from the hospital or can be obtained by calling the Rheumatology Advice Line on 0113 3924444.

The blood monitoring form will then be posted to your home address.

The Prescription Management Service is available to help. The number for this service is 0113 392 4948 – this is an answerphone only service.

When should you call the prescription management team?

  • If you have any questions relating to the home delivery of your medicines
  • If you need to request a blood test form (or why not request it online using our Blood Test Form)
  • If you need to let us know that you’ve had a blood test or started your new treatment
