The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Inherited White Matter Disorders (IWMD)

The Inherited White Matter Disorders (IWMD) service is a diagnostic and management service for adults with white matter disorders

Inherited White Matter Disorders (IWMD), also known as leukodystrophies, are part of a group of genetic disorders that are a result of single gene mutations. IWMDs affect the nervous system.

In collaboration with other lead IWMD centres, LTHT will work towards the development of specialised diagnostic and disease-specific protocols with the aim of setting up a system for the management of symptoms, diagnostics, and clinical trials.
