The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Record breaking stroke care

8 March 2018

Brain attack teamCongratulations to our Brain Attack Team who, once again, managed to get a patient safely treated in record time, equalling the 12 minute door-to-needle time set 18 months ago.

This time a big thanks goes to Brain Attack Team Nurses Antonietta Morciano and Wojciech Chudzinski as well as Dr Marc Randall for this achievement.

Alastair Bailey, Lead Nurse for Stroke, said: “Receiving a patient from the ambulance service, examining them, getting a CT scan, a senior decision maker, and administration of medication, all in twelve minutes is an amazing achievement for any stroke service.”

We may well have reached the optimum time for the safe and efficient treatment of a patient suffering an ischaemic stroke. However, with some planned changes and incorporating the The Leeds Way we may see that time come down even further - watch this space!
