What we do

Live Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) is an option for some patients requiring liver transplantation. LDLT has been accepted as a valid treatment option by National bodies, NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), British Transplant Society (BTS), National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the NHS England Specialised Services.

Liver transplantation is a successful treatment for patients with end-stage liver disease and some types of liver cancer. The demand for liver transplant surgery has increased in the UK. Unfortunately, the number of suitable deceased liver donors has not increased enough to meet with this demand; this has given rise to the Leeds Live Donor Liver Transplant Program.

It is possible to split the liver in different ways, the type of surgery depends upon whether the transplant recipient is an adult or child or on the size of the donor liver.
