Oxcarbazepine / Hydroxycarbazepine

Oxcarbazepine / Hydroxycarbazepine

Information from ctlabs.co.uk: Oxcarbazepine is a derivative of carbamazepine with similar actions. It is used as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures with or without secondarily generalised tonic-clonic seizures. Oxcarbazepine is used in the treatment of epilepsy and may be a useful alternative in patients unable to tolerate carbamazepine. Oxcarbazepine is rapidy metabolised to hydroxycarbazepine and it is this metabolite that is routinely monitored.
