Phenobarbitone is a metabolite of Primidone, use this test to monitor patients on primidone.

Additional Information For monitoring purposes, blood should not be drawn until a steady state has been attained. This will not be achieved until 2-4 weeks after starting therapy or changing dose. In children the period may be slightly shorter at 1-2 weeks. Renal or hepatic disease may result in increased phenobarbitone concentration. PLEASE NOTE: TEST CAN ONLY BE ADDED TO A SAMPLE WITHIN 8 HOURS OF COLLECTION

Collection Con Intensive care units, renal unit, transplant unit, patients on IV heparin use lithium-heparin (Green with Yellow ring) tube. Minimum volume: 500µl serum / plasma
