Gastric parietal cell (GPC) antibodies are directed against the gastric H/K ATPase. Indicated in Pernicious anaemia, Atrophic gastritis and Autoimmune gastriti, anti-GPC antibodies are assayed as part of a panel of tests including liver autoantibodies.

Additional Information Parietal cell antibodies are found in about 90% of Caucasian patients with pernicious anaemia. Parietal cell antibodies are not disease specific, they can be detected in patients with chronic atropic gastritis, gastric ulcers, Sjogren's syndrome, other autoimmune endroctinopathis and in up to 7% of healthy individuals. Where GPC Ab are detected in asymptomatic patients, 3% per year may go on th develop pernicious anaemia.
