| Additional Information | The results in HIV patients, in patients undergoing immunosuppressive therapy, or in patients with other disorders leading to immunosuppression, should be interpreted with caution. A rise in CMV antibody level may occur in patients with measles, varicella-zoster virus (VZV) or herpes simplex virus (HSV) due to antigenic crossreactivity within the herpesvirus family. Patients with acute EBV (Epstein-Barr Virus) infection may show increased reactivity to other viruses, including CMV. Samples from patients routinely exposed to animals or animal serum products can demonstrate this type of interference potentially causing an anomalous result. |
