GRASP campaign
Leeds Teaching Hospitals launched the GRASP Campaign in November 2015 and have recruited a network of committed and passionate staff members as GRASP champions. GRASP stands for Green, Recycle, be Aware, be Sustainable for our Patients.
Since its start, the GRASP Campaign has focussed on saving energy with a switch off campaign, dry waste recycling and the recycling of single use metal items.
Through staff engagement initiatives implemented by GRASP Champions the Trust has saved 2000 tonnes of CO2e to date. These initiatives have encouraged a culture change throughout the Trust and have resulted in significant environmental performance improvements in areas including energy, waste, water and travel.
By turning off equipment when not in use, reducing excessive heat and noise, switching off lights to help promote sleep and reduce light pollution, closing doors to improve patient safety and privacy and help regulate room temperatures, we can save energy and improve patient experience at the same time.
GRASP champions meet regularly to discuss the Trust’s environmental initiatives, share best practice and help to promote greener ways of working within their areas.
