Wanda MacdonaldWanda Macdonald is a Clinical Physiologist at the LGI and has worked at the Trust for 40 years.

“I’ve worked in many of the hospitals which form part of the Leeds Trust over the years and have seen many changes. Despite it being a large trust, the community feel of different departments makes you feel a worthwhile part of a team.

“These days my specialist area is cardio-pulmonary exercise testing which is used, amongst other things, to assess patients’ fitness for surgery prior to major cancer resections, to form part of a respiratory diagnosis, and to assess prognostic indicators for cardiac patients.

“The test involves analysing cardiac rhythms during exercise whilst obtaining many respiratory variables such as anaerobic threshold and maximum oxygen uptake. I’m part of a wider team performing a wide range of respiratory and cardiac diagnostic and prognostic procedures.

“Outside work, I’m a keen runner and traveller, often combining both to do marathons and other events abroad. I run for a local club and enjoy leading a group each week, encouraging others to enjoy the sport whilst enjoying the countryside in my local area.”
