The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

The Leeds Improvement Method

The Leeds Improvement Method underpins our vision, goals and The Leeds Way values.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals was selected as one of five Trusts to take part in the NHS Improvement Partnership working with NHS Improvement and the world-renowned Virginia Mason Institute in Seattle. A 5 year partnership began in 2015 which enabled us to develop the Leeds Improvement Method. This method allows us to be more efficient with all of our resources and provide an improved experience and better outcomes for our patients.

Virginia Mason is regarded as one of the most efficient and effective healthcare providers in the world, having developed a unique methodology for applying lean principles in a healthcare setting.  The concept and principles of the underpinning Toyota Production System compliment much of the work we have already undertaken in the Trust over the last two years to develop The Leeds Way, our values, behaviours and culture. To find out more about the partnership, watch the short video below which was created at the start of the partnership.
