Two Thirds of Hospital Outpatient Services Now Accessible Online via Patient Hub

12 December 2022

Two thirds of outpatient clinics and services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are now accessible via Patient Hub, an online hospital appointments portal.

Patient Hub was launched just five months ago as a pilot at Leeds Children’s Hospital and to date has been used to book 100,000 appointments, saving approximately £17,000 in postage costs. Accessed online and from smartphones and tablets, patients can easily use it wherever they are to make, change or cancel their hospital appointments, removing the need for potentially lengthy telephone calls and reducing costs and carbon footprint for the Trust.

The system also incorporates appointment notifications, reminding patients of their appointments and ensuring as many people as possible turn up, or cancel in plenty of time so that these appointments can be made available for other people waiting.

More and more patients are being contacted to invite them to start using the portal as new services come on board. Chapel Allerton Outpatients is one of the largest new services to join, representing 10% of the Trust’s appointments, including services such as Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Rheumatology and specialist rehabilitation clinics.

Dr Raj Mukherjee, Clinical Director, Outpatients, said  “Patients have fed back how easy Patient Hub is to use. We’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback from both staff and patients when using Patient Hub. We wanted to increase accessibility to appointments for patients, but also to make it easier to see the information they need and feel more in control of their healthcare appointments.”

Additional information such as maps and patient letters have also facilitated getting to appointments in the easiest way. It is also possible for patients to opt-out should they wish to continue to receive a printed letter and they can do that at any point. Visit Patient Hub Appointments on Patient Hub (

Further services will come online in the New Year.
