This leaflet explains how to use Otoform® to treat your scar.
What is Otoform?
Otoform is a putty-like silicone (silicone elastomer) which can be applied to your scar. Your Occupational Therapist has provided you with Otoform, which has been individually moulded to you. Otoform can help to soften, flatten and smooth scars that are raised.
When should the Otoform be worn?
The Otoform can be worn when your scar is healed and dry. It should not be used on open wounds. Your Otoform should be worn overnight. Follow the advice of your Occupational Therapist on when and how long to wear it.
Could there be any side effects and what should I do?
Side effects are rare, but some people can be allergic to silicone elastomer. If you notice a rash, itching or redness, stop wearing the Otoform and contact your Occupational Therapist.
How do I use the Otoform?
- Wash and dry your scar to remove any cream or perfume.
- Place the Otoform mould over the scar.
- Secure in place with your splint if you have one or a bandage.
How should I look after the Otoform?
- Wash carefully with luke warm water and mild soap.
- Pat dry with a soft clean cloth.
- When not being worn, cover the Otoform in cling film or place in a plastic bag and store at room temperature.
- Do not bend the mould as it may break.
- The Otoform is reusable for up to 2 to 3 weeks.
