PRIEST Study


Summary

The aim of this study is to optimise the triage of people using the emergency care system (111and 999 calls, ambulance conveyance, or hospital emergency department) with suspected respiratory infections during a pandemic and identify the most accurate triage method for predicting severe illness among patients attending the emergency department with suspected pandemic influenza respiratory infection.

Treatment

This is an observational study:  patients will be given standard care.  The triage method that is used locally will be adopted and how patient and treated and their clinical outcome will be captured for the study.

Who can participate?

Patients will be eligible if they are

  1. Any age (adults and children can participate)
  2. Have/had a fever (greater than or equal to 38oC
  3. Influenza-like symptoms

Patient Burden

As this is an observational study, there is minimal patient burden.  No patient consent in required:  an information leaflet will be available to explain the study.
