The NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre is a world leading centre for translational research into individually targeted, patient focussed therapies across musculoskeletal diseases. The Centre brings together Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust with two leading University of Leeds research institutes, the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine (LIRMM) and the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE).
The vision for the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre is to improve outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal conditions through understanding the factors underlying disease and developing and evaluating individually targeted treatments. Musculoskeletal conditions include: inflammatory arthritis (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis), connective tissue diseases (such as scleroderma and lupus) and osteoarthritis.
