Improving cancer care with your data
Leeds Teaching Hospitals is planning to work with Flatiron Health UK in a pioneering
partnership which will help to develop better cancer care and treatment.
Our work with Flatiron Health UK, a commercial organisation, will provide researchers with the best cancer data possible. Research is vital to improving cancer care and treatment, and depends on high quality data. Unless you tell us otherwise, we will
share data about your care with Flatiron Health UK to help them build the most comprehensive collection of anonymised data on cancer patients available to researchers in the UK.
Why do we need more data?
Most high-quality data comes from clinical trials, but 80%of patients with cancer do not take part in these trials. If researchers could access data for this remaining 80% of patients, they would have much more information which would make their research more effective.
Why do we need Flatiron Health UK to help?
Information on patients is not stored in one place so it is difficult to bring together. Flatiron Health UK will collate this information and curate it into collections of anonymised data that are useful to researchers.
Who will have access to my data?
Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust and other Flatiron Health UK academic partners will be able to use the data for research. The data will be anonymised and only accessible through a secure online platform. There are strict controls on who can access this anonymised data and what they can do with it.
What if I don’t want my data to be shared?
We will contact you if we are planning to include your data in this project. You will be given details of how to opt-out if you do not wish for your data to be shared.
