Below is a range of research funding options available for Leeds Cancer Centre.

Bloodwise

Project grants of up to £250,000 are available for up to three years to address key questions in the field of blood cancer here.

Bone Cancer Research Trust

The BCRT offers a range of different funding opportunities throughout the year including Idea Grants, Infrastructure Grants, Explorer Grants, Studentships, Fellowships, Clinical/ Translational Grants and Skills Development Grants here.

Bowel & Cancer Research

The Bowel & Cancer Research charity offer proof-of-principle applications up to £50,000 and PhD studentships up to £75,000. They are keen to support early career researchers and details can be found here.

Brain Research UK

Brain Research UK offers PhD studentships of up to £120,000 and the call will open in July/August 2020. BRUK also provides Project grants of up to £300,000 and the next call opens September 2020 here.

British Skin Foundation

The British Skin Foundation invites applications for the BSF Research Award, BSF Studentship Award, BSF Fellowship Award, BSF Young Investigator Award from October 2020 here.

Cancer Research UK

CRUK offers a range of funding opportunities from discovery research to clinical and population research. CRUK also have fellowships and bursaries to develop your research career and strategic priorities which currently they are (i) Early detection and diagnosis and (ii) Cancers of unmet need. Leukaemia UK

Currently available are Conference Fellowships and MRC Research Fellows awards, which are a collaboration between MRC and Leukaemia UK. Details can be found here.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan and the NCRI will be hosting a three-day residential research workshop on cancer-related fatigue (postponed due to COVID, applications still welcome). They welcome applicants from all backgrounds. To apply please go here.

Myeloma UK

Myeloma UK is inviting applications to explore geographic inequalities in myeloma and will fund one research project up to the value of £100K for 18 months. Details can be found here.

Oracle Cancer Trust

Oracle accepts funding applications for single year or multi-year projects including for three or four year PhD student projects up to £200,000 here

Pancreatic Cancer UK

PCUK have a fantastic opportunity open to be part of the Early Diagnosis Sandpit Innovation Workshop, through which will result in five of the best research proposals being funded £100,000 each.

Clinical Research Fellowships in joint funding partnership with the Medical Research Council, three years funding of salary and £20k to obtain a PhD.

Prostate Cancer UK

Upcoming Summer 2020

Soon to be launched here, is a strategic initiative for research funding to explore treatment outcomes and choice of treatment for men with prostate cancer. Submission deadline; October 2020 tbc.

Joint clinical research fellowship in partnership with the Medical Research Council, funds three year’s salary and £20k to obtain a PhD here.

Sarcoma UK 2020 Genomic Research Grant Round now open

Sarcoma UK is the national charity for all types of sarcoma. Our research programme funds high quality research to understand more about sarcoma, find new treatments and ultimately identify a cure for these cancers. The 2020 call invites applications which further knowledge into sarcoma genomics and will award one research project up to £250,000. We encourage applications which build on, or link in with, the work previously funded by Sarcoma UK as part of this funding stream.

Update on the 2020 Clinical Research Grant Round: Due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the clinical research round has sadly been cancelled for this year. A fund of £50,000 has instead been made available through our Sarcoma UK Strategic Collaborations Clinical Fund 2020. 

Sarcoma UK Strategic Collaborations Clinical Fund 2020: £50,000 of funding is available for a single project/ initiative.

To be eligible for this funding, proposals must be:

- Collaborative – with funding from at least one other organisation

- High priority – in an area of high strategic priority for Sarcoma UK

- Clinically focussed – the project must involve Sarcoma patients

The Urology Foundation

The Urology Foundation has an open call for their smaller research projects fund for up to £10k.

Submission deadline; 30th June and 31st October and details can be found here.

The Fullbright Commission and The Urology Foundation Scholar award enables UK academic or professional urologists or urology nurses to pursue relevant research at any accredited US higher education institution for 3 to 9 months.
