Orthoptics is a specialised branch of Ophthalmology (eye healthcare) which specialises in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of strabismus or squint, binocular vision and childhood visual problems.
Orthoptists are highly trained allied health professionals (AHPs) who assess and treat these conditions, often working closely with other professionals within the eye clinic including Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Nurses and others.
The Department is based at the St James’s University Hospital.
Who is the Orthoptics service for?
Our department also acts as the base for children’s eye clinic, however our clinical work involves seeing patients of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
