What is Psoriatic Arthritis?
Psoriatic Arthritis, also known as PsA, is a chronic, inflammatory arthritis often associated with skin psoriasis. It is a very heterogenous (diverse) disease that causes inflammation of joints, tendons and ligaments. It can also affect the spine.
Up to 90% of people who develop Psoriatic Arthritis also have skin psoriasis, a skin condition which causes a red and scaly rash. In many cases, skin psoriasis can be present for 10 years or more before the joints become painful.
People affected by Psoriatic Arthritis may also suffer from associated conditions such as axial Spondyloarthritis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (e.g. Crohn’s or Colitis) or uveitis.
