Purines & pyrimidine studies

Purine and pyrimidines are compounds essential to DNA and RNA synthesis. Urine is the preferred sample type for a first line screen for inherited disorders of purine and pyrimidine metabolism. EDTA whole blood can also be analysed.

Urine: Store in freezer
EDTA whole blood: Do not separate. Store in fridge. Only accepted Mon/Tues/Wed, send promptly, must reach referral lab within 3 days of collection.
Minimum volume: 2 mL urine.
