Vitamin C

Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is a water soluble vitamin involved in collagen synthesis and iron absorption, and has anti-oxidant properties. Deficiency of vitamin C causes scurvy, the symptoms of which include easy bruising and bleeding, gum disease, hair loss and anaemia. Vitamin C is a negative acute phase reactant (levels are decreased in the presence of infection or inflammation), consider measurement of CRP at the same time.
