Beta-2 Transferrin (Tau Protein)

Beta-2 Transferrin (Tau Protein)

Beta 2 transferrin (Tau protein) is an asialylated form of transferrin. This protein runs in the beta-2 region on protein electrophoresis. Beta-2-transferrin is present in CSF but absent in serum, therefore the detection of this protein in nasal fluids indicates that the fluid originated from the CSF.
