Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is the antibody isotype associated with atopy. It mediates mast cell degranulation through specific receptors.

Additional Information | Total IgE levels are elevated in atopic eczema, allergic asthma, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, invasive heleminthiasis and some forms of immunodeficiency. Measurement of total IgE levels is not essential in the diagnosis of allergy. The level of IgE does not correlate well with the severity of allergic symptoms |
