Cryptosporidium and Giardia EIA

Both Cryptosporidium and Giardia are parasites. They may cause a range of symptoms from mild to severe diarrhoea. Transmission is through faecal-oral ingestion of cysts, typically from contaminated water. Cryptosporidium is particularly troublesome for immunocompromised patients because of the lack of effective therapeutic options. We detect Cryptosporidia and Giardia using a combined EIA based screening test. Positive screening test results are confirmed as either Cryptosporidia or Giardia by microscopy. Faecal samples are examined for Cryptosporidia and Giardia either on clinician request, stool consistency (i.e. liquid stools) or relevant clinical details such as travel history or HIV.
