
Read Professor David Sebag-Montefiore’s
thought leader on innovation in radiotherapy
David is Director of the Leeds Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Radiotherapy Research Centre of Excellence, Clinical Director (Radiotherapy) at Leeds CRUK Clinical Trials Unit, and previous Director of Leeds Cancer Research Centre.
David completed his undergraduate training at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London, and postgraduate clinical oncology training at Mount Vernon Hospital, the Middlesex Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals. He was awarded the Royal College of Radiologists Rohan Williams medal in 1989, and the Royal College of Radiologist’s Gold Medal in 2019 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of clinical oncology.
His research primarily focuses on improving outcomes for patients with rectal and anal cancer particularly through radiotherapy and clinical trials. His leadership of innovative practice changing gastrointestinal cancer clinical trials include the MRC CR07, CRUK ACT2, ARISTOTLE, STAR-TREC, and PLATO ACT3, 4 and 5 trials.
He has authored two Research Excellence Framework Impact Case Studies in rectal and anal cancer. David has previously chaired the National Cancer Research Institute Radiotherapy Research Group (CTRad) and CRUK’s Clinical Trials Awards and Advisory Committee. His work continues to influence clinical practice and improve patient outcomes on a national and international scale.
