As Director of NIHR Leeds BRC, Philip oversees one of the 20 BRC’s that make up a national network of centres bringing together clinical research experts. The NIHR Leeds BRC fosters collaboration between LTHT and our internationally renowned university partners, attracting top scientists and clinical researchers. It provides an innovative environment for world-leading research, improving patients’ lives and contributing to the local and national economy.
Philip’s translational and clinical trial research programme aims to understand the causes of common joint problems and develop effective therapies. He has chaired NICE osteoarthritis clinical guidance committees and co-authored over 700 publications, including original research, reviews, and book chapters.
Philip has received numerous international research awards, such as the Carol Nachman Award for Rheumatology, the OARSI Clinical Research Award, and the Elise Jourdevant Prize.
