Dr Andy Brookes - Chief Registrar

Andy Brookes JDF

What does your job entail?

I'm a Paediatric ST7 Registrar & Children's Hospital Chief Registrar. My clinical role is currently based in paediatric respiratory medicine during the day and general paediatrics out of hours. As Chief Registrar I am the trainee representative for Leeds Children's Hospital. I work with the College Tutors and Management Team to improve the trainee doctor experience at Leeds.

What do you specialise in?

I specialise in paediatric respiratory medicine. This involves seeing patients on the wards with problems with their chest as well as delivering outpatient clinics on asthma, cystic fibrosis and other chest conditions.

What do you love about your job?

I love seeing children who present as acutely unwell but within a few hours are running around like nothing was ever wrong! I also enjoy improving my colleagues' experience of working at Leeds Children's Hospital and making it the hospital that all paediatric trainees want to come to.

Why Leeds Children’s Hospital?

There are a huge range of medical problems that are managed in Leeds and there are so many experts all in one place. As a trainee you have the opportunity to learn so much and work in a specialist centre for many different conditions.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I am a keen golfer and regularly play at York Golf Club when I am not on call at the weekends. I also enjoy the spending time with my family, especially my little boy who is 6 months old.
