Please note, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Audiology Department cannot repair, maintain or adjust hearing aids issued by another NHS Hearing Aid Provider (AQP) service.

Some patients will need to be transferred to our Head and Neck Pod, for more complex Audiology enquiries.

If you are in a long queue, you will be given the option to select a ‘call back’.  If you select this option you will not lose your place in the queue. When you reach Caller 1, one of our team will call you back regarding your enquiry.

Changes to Adult Hearing and Hearing Aid Services

The Hearing and Balance Service is now running services and appointments at Seacroft Hospital and our hearing aid repair clinics in the community. Unfortunately St James’s hearing aid repair clinic has now closed permanently. We are also offering postal services for standard hearing aid repairs and tubing replacements, so please do contact us on [email protected] or call 0113 5181823 if you feel it is urgent. 

For postal hearing aid repairs please do not send these to the Leeds General Infirmary.  Our new postal address is:

Hearing Aid Repair Drop-off Service

We understand that it is difficult to be without a working hearing aid and we will do all we can to help you in a timely manner. Our department offers a drop-off repair service where you can drop off your Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS issued faulty hearing aid/s at the Hearing and Balance Service at Seacroft Hospital to be repaired and you will be contacted when ready, to arrange collection. 

Clinic Opening times

Monday – Friday: 08:30 -12pm and 1pm to 5pm

You can drop-off your faulty hearing aid/s any time between 08:30am and 5pm. You do not need to inform reception.

On arrival you will see a table outside the main department entrance. Please:

  • Fill in a form with all the relevant information – ensure you enter the full name of the hearing aid user otherwise we will not be able to action the request.
  • Place your faulty hearing aid/s into an envelope provided
  • Seal the envelope and drop it into the drop-off repair box on the table

Please ensure you have added a contact number or email address so we can advise you when it is ready.

We aim to action your request within 5 working days of drop-off. If you have requested us to post your hearing aids back to you once repaired, please allow up to 2 weeks for delivery. However, we strongly advise to arrange collection when ready.

Please note that we are unable to repair privately bought hearing aids or hearing aids that have been provided by another NHS service (AQP) such as Meanwood, Scrivens (Living care or M&S), Specsavers/Westcliffe or Bramhope clinics.

If you have obtained your hearing aid/s from an AQP site (Any Qualified Provider) please contact them if you require hearing aid repair/s, replacement tubing, battery replacements, services, hearing aid alterations and/or advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can now collect your batteries from your local clinics as pre-covid arrangements. We can no longer post out battery supplies.

Please email or call us to discuss replacement devices. Please note that the NHS Trust now makes a charge for hearing aid/s that are lost or damaged through neglect.  We can discuss this further with you when you have contacted us.

From the 1st January 2019 an national charge for lost hearing aid devices was put in place for the NHS. This stands at a national charge of £80 per hearing aid device. Please email or telephone us if you have any queries regarding this.

If your hearing aid is not working, try replacing the battery. If it still does not work, please check to see if the tubing is blocked (wax/debris) and if it can be removed safely to clean if appropriate.

You can also try looking at the C2Hear online videos.

You can also email or call us if you require further help or advice. 

You can use unscented wipes/antibacterial wipes to clean your ear mould or rubber dome if you have this type of hearing aid. You can also remove the mould from the hearing aid hook and wash the mould in warm soapy water and leave to dry overnight.  Please ensure there is no water left in the tubing as this may prevent the sound getting through (a small gentle shake can dislodge water in the tube easily). Do not get the electronic part of the hearing aid wet.

The tubing can be cleaned using a pin or paperclip; you can also use a small brush such as a dental brush to clean the tubing. If you are not sure how to do this, please ask the audiologist at your next appointment.

Please note that we require to see and check your hearing aid and view the condition of your ears before we can proceed with hearing assessment should you request it. The audiologist who sees you will be able to arrange an appointment if it is necessary.

Important Information: We cannot test hearing at any of our repair sites.

Some people have obtained their hearing aids from an AQP (Any Qualified Provider) site such as:

  • Meanwood Audiology NHS Service
  • Bramhope (Chevin) Medical Centre Audiology Services
  • Scrivens Hearing Services (under Living Care Group)
  • Specsavers (Now under Westcliffe Innovations – Hearing Aid Services) Leeds Teaching Hospitals (LTHT) cannot service, repair or replace hearing aids issued by another provider

You must contact your hearing aid provider and they will be able to help you with your requirement, this includes replacement tubes and battery supply. The NHS cannot repair, replace or service privately bought hearing aids.

Personal information changes

It is very important you inform us by telephone, letter or email if your name, address and/or telephone number changes.  Even if you have updated your information at your General Practitioners, this may not be automatically updated at the hospital.
