The best treatment option for somebody on the kidney transplant waiting list is a transplant from a living donor. If a friend or relative would like to be considered as a potential donor then we ask them to contact their live donor team initially to discuss this. Please note, recipients are unable to telephone on their behalf.
As well as our information leaflets and videos, the Institute of Transplantation have produced some great informative videos we recommend you watch before contacting the live donor team. You can also visit the NHS Blood and Transplant website which has lots of information and leaflets to read.
Before making contact with the your local live donor team we would also recommend you visit the ‘Make your Mark’ website. This website was launched by Kidney Research UK and Give a Kidney, a charity devoted to living donation. It provides any potential donors with a wealth of advice and support to guide them through their live donor journey.
If you wish to be considered as a living kidney donor, for either someone you know or for anyone on the transplant waiting list (an altruistic donor) please contact the Transplant Co-ordinators located at the centre most convenient for you to have your assessment (see below for contact details). If you have an intended recipient we advise you speak to them before you register your interest as a living kidney donor.
