This page is intended to supplement the information which will be given to you by your doctors and transplant co-ordinators when it is appropriate to discuss the option of having a kidney transplant.
The transplant team is multi-disciplinary, and includes nephrologists, transplant surgeons and anaesthetists as well as other professionals such as our ward nursing team, kidney transplant co-ordinators, dieticians, pharmacists, specialist nurses in transition from paediatric to adult services, physiotherapists, social worker and many others, including our administrative teams.
We are a member of the Northern Alliance, a partnership between the Leeds transplant Unit and the transplant programs in Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool for the benefit of our patients.
Which patients do we look after?
Patients come to Leeds for their kidney transplant from East, West and North Yorkshire and the Humber.
If your care is based in Leeds you will have all of your pre and post transplant care at St. James’s University Hospital.
If your care is based in Hull, Bradford or York you will generally have all of your pre and post transplant care at Hull Royal Infirmary, Bradford Royal Infirmary or York District Hospital. You will attend St. James’s University Hospital for your kidney transplant and normally remain in St. James’s University Hospital until you are well enough to be discharged home. Your care will then be transferred back to your local centre.
