Day One
Today is your first full day after transplant. You will carry on with your intravenous fluids but continue to drink to thirst as well.
Eat as able and continue chewing gum.
Fluid is important to keep your kidney happy. After transplant you need to be weighed daily so the doctors can assess your fluid status. Today the nursing staff will help you sit in the weighing chair.
Continually moving is important for healing. Aim to sit out of bed twice for an hour each time. Remember to use your PCAs to help with this. We want you to be able to deep breathe and cough comfortably, so use your PCAs for this too if pain is restricting you.
When in bed do regular leg exercises and sit as upright as you can when not sleeping.
Continue with your spirometry 10 times an hour – if you need a reminder on how to do this correctly please ask.
Nursing staff will come and assist you with a wash.
