Day Two
Today your fluid allowance to drink will be given by the doctors. Your intravenous fluids will either be stopped or you’ll be getting less as you drink more.
Start recording what you are drinking on your fluid balance chart – the nursing team will show you how to do this. Nursing staff will assess your urine output while you have a catheter.
Continue to eat as you are able and ask for anti-sickness medication if you feel or are being sick.
The nursing staff will come and weigh you.
The PCAs button is stopped by today and your pain relief is now given to you regularly in tablet form. If you have break through pain, tell your nurses as a further pain relief can be available.
As you become less attached to intravenous drips, start to move more. Try and walk the ERAS lap twice today – this lap is sign posted on the ward. Continue with your spirometer and leg exercises. Wash independently at the bedside.
Begin to read through your discharge information booklets.
