The North of England Paediatric Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Management Service is based at Leeds Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Bradford Teaching Hospitals. The regional team work alongside local teams across the North of England to provide specialist care for patients from diagnosis through to transition to adult services. Our patients are reviewed at annual assessments and supported additionally with home visits, school visits and via telephone.
Physiotherapy plays a key role in the management of PCD. Physiotherapy techniques and nebulisers are used to clear mucus from the airways, aiming to minimise infections and keep the lungs functioning well. The nose and sinus can also become congested with mucus and physiotherapy helps to manage this. We provide advice on regular exercise which can help to open up the airways, clear mucus, and maintain fitness.
