The Optometry department provides an optometric screening service for patients being treated with a range of systemic drugs, which include:
Patients attending for screening appointments will normally have a series of measurements carried out by the optometrist including visions, colour vision and an assessment of the health of the front and the back of the eye, which may include special imaging by the medical imaging team. They will normally be in clinic for at least an hour.
How do I make an appointment with this service?
To be seen for a toxic screening you must be referred by your clinician at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust or another hospital.
Clinics
Patients can be seen for toxic screening in clinics that run throughout the week in the main eye clinic at St. James’s University hospital.

Please be aware that you may have a series of examinations from a range of clinicians and your appointment may take up to one hour to be completed from the time your appointment is booked.
